About Abby

Reader

I’ve always had a… complicated… relationship with books.

Like many self-declared readers, I have numerous early memories of sneaking a flashlight and books into my bed to stay up way too late lost in a story. This habit has not disappeared with age (though I’ve ditched the flashlight).

Writer

I wrote my first book at the age of 7, which I titled Patty the Squirrel, in which the eponymous protagonist evades death by hawk and eats an acorn. Powerful stuff.

Since my first forays into writing, I’ve mostly focused on poetry and creative non-fiction (blogging), though my true love is fiction. I finished writing my debut novel in the spring of 2021, and plan to seek traditional publication.

Teacher

As a kid, I had a host of writing teachers who fostered and encouraged my writing. I wouldn’t be the writer I am without them, and I believe every writer should have access to knowledgeable, enthusiastic teachers.

In the fall of 2021 I’m launching a class series aimed at local homeschooling families. I was homeschooled (and am now a homeschool mom myself), and know the challenges that teaching writing at home can present. For current class offerings, visit my Classes page.
